17th century historical fiction of love, honor and heroism
I was anticipating David Tory’s next book in the Stanfield Chronicles because I feel that I’ve known Issac Stanfield since he was an adventurous young man in Dorchester, England. Much has happened in his fictional life as we now have “Plantation”, which features Issac’s grown up son James in pursuit of a new generation of challenges.
Here we follow the story of the early sugar trade in Barbados, entwined with the complicated dynamics of the slave trade. Our 21st century sensibilities are offended by how “things were” in the early 17th century, yet David Tory has woven an artful escape for his characters. To the further intrigue of this series’ readers, we are treated to a charming subplot of a love story. I recommend this book as a safe harbor from the turbulent times we navigate daily. Perhaps with a comfy chair by a warm fire and a hot rum toddy?
Plantation is another success for David Tory. The torch has passed to our hero’s son and he fills those big shoes well, another adventurer getting into trouble. Explains the challenges of trying to survive in those days.
Wonderful descriptions, riveting story, compelling romance, great historical insights.
Thank goodness Tory did not stop after the trilogy.
More please

Bring Early American History Alive
I have read each of David’s books and absolutely love them. I grew up in Ipswich Mass and this series turns my sleepy old hometown into a vibrant part of the modern world. Plus the sailing journeys make me appreciate how hardy our ancestors are. The whole series is excellent!
How it was done to get where we are.
Entertaining. Cleverly crafted. Engaging. Hard to put down. I am guessing that there will be a next one? Hopefully.
A wonderful adventure in the Caribbean

Surely there will be more books to come!
I had waited with anticipation for David Tory’s fourth book to arrive! After the Stanfield trilogy, it is a sure bet that it would be as compelling, colorful and engrossing as his previous books. It does not disappoint! David’s enviable skill is that he takes his readers on a wild roller coaster ride, seatbelts fastened, and still manages to give lessons in history, geography, nautical expertise and warm family adventure. What a fascinating read!
